The Millionaire Minute: Teamwork
Every one of us has strengths and weaknesses. No one person can do everything.
Try this exercise. Put your hands in front of you about a foot apart from each other. Hold your hands with the fingers pointing up and palms facing out. Now make a fist but leave your two index fingers extended. You have 1 and 1 in front of you. Now bring the fingers close together. What number is in front of you? Do you see you have made the number 11 out of the two fingers?
Just as the number 11 is greater than 1 + 1, teams can be greater than the sum of their members. You create synergy with a team. The architect/philosopher/mathematician Buckminister Fuller coined the word “synergy” and then proved it existed by combining architectural elements that became stronger together than they were on their own.
If you want to become successful, you need to have help. You need to build a team that will become more than the sum of its parts.
In order to create a team that will have super synergy you need to choose team members that compensate for each other’s weaknesses and enhance each other’s strengths. Would a basketball team win championships if all the players on the court had the same physical attributes and skills of Shaquille O’Neal?
